What do we REALLY think of Carlton Cole?

Popped up and scored today when it mattered - we could have been in trouble without that goal.
Yes, he is very frustrating at times, not particularly clinical and has never really looked that smooth with his link-up play (apart from under Zola).
But I like the fact he's a long-standing club servant who doesn't moan. He's always there to do a job - case in point today.
Would you clap him if he came back as a player for a rival team or manager of an opposing team? I certainly would....

He's probably very important for team morale. Very affable. Ravel's mate. Etc. If he shows the form he was displaying under Zola, I'd be very happy for him.
He'd get a standing ovation on returning. A legend of sorts. More nicknames than any other West Ham player ever.

I like him. He's not good enough to play every week but a very capable 3rd choice centre forward.
I don't understand the stick he gets. He's not a great player and can be frustrating at times, but he works hard for the team and chips in with a few goals and decent performances.

Considering what we paid for him...his chronic knee/hip injuries...and his wages...we are doing OK with CFC...but this will probably his last season in the squad...Testimonial due...& well deserved

We have had many better goalscorers. A player who has the tools but has never made the most of them.
I have to say I have a fair amount of respect for how he has conducted himself in the face of fan abuse and generally pleased we have him in the squad.
I think tactics have in part stifled his goal output but he isn't natural finisher and he shouldn't be a regular starter at this level. Seems a good character and much liked within the squad.
